Food From the Hood was a student-run business created by students at Crenshaw High School in the wake of the L.A. Uprising. The students grew and sold vegetables, then created salad dressing. Through the years, students throughout the Los Angeles area benefited from the program. They used the skills they learned from the program to persevere in the job market in their adult lives.
Archival footage was from the Food From the Hood recruitment video, given to me courtesy of Monique Hunter and archival photos were given to me courtesy of Marla Schulman.
As an FFTH alum, it was a great honor to create this documentary for a class in grad school! I would like to thank my professor Dan Birman and Megan Chao for teaching me documentary filmmaking. A big thank you to Tammy Bird, Cesar Bravo, Maynard Brown, Monique Hunter, Rodolpho Ramirez, Marla Schulman, Seak Smith, and Luther Waters. Also, thank you to all of those who were involved with Food From the Hood. Without you all, this documentary would not have been possible.
